The sandfish (Scincus scincus) is a species of desert skink that has a nifty trick for evading predators (or just the hot sun): it submerges itself in the sand and literally swims though it — thus the name.

I'm in America on business and given we were spending the weekend and had no work to do we decided a jaunt to Las Vegas was in order. It's a mere 290 mile trip through scorching desert heat and since I'm not driving it's not too arduous beyond 4hrs of sitting.

Fallout 3 can sap hours of your life. After doing all the hard labour required of me this weekend, I thought I'd treat myself to some Fallout 3. The Mrs was sparko on the sofa, so why not! This is my second time through, the first I played a goody-two-shoes and went off piste for hours at a time, blithering about. Now I'm playing a Pete at his most evil. It's a stretch, I know.

After having survived a couple of sprint triathlons in the last couple of months I decided (with a bit of encouragement) to have a go at an olymic distance triathlon. In terms of time and distance it's a big step-up from Sprint distance to Olympic...well, double everything in fact. The distances involved would be a 1.5km swim, a 40km bike ride, and a 10k run.

My list of 412 defects, issues, updates, graphics, improvements and modifications is now down to two:

1. Add four more Operatives
2. Operative Pictures

Except for performing the release, it's all I need to do before the next Beta game. I need 6 Operatives in total and I have three so far:

Tonight I upgraded the Wordpress install on the site to version 2.8, resulted in about half-an-hour’s downtime while I untangled some merge conflicts the svn update to 2.8 combined with a move to the new Wordpress core svn server created. Interestingly the process went fine on my test server, but not on live; I’ll have to look into that.

It's been a while since there have been any big games but the past couple of weeks have had several big titles hit one after the other.

It's been nice to have some titles to get my teeth into even if it means I don't have time for other things for a week or so.

Nearly halfway through the year, which is more than a little scary. Time to see how the New Year Resolutions are shaping up...
