Laptop for the Missus

For Christmas Gill has requested a new laptop, as hers is basically shit and old (it's not too bad, and once I have replaced it I'll probably re-install it with XP, and use it for something random, but the battery connections are fuxored, and it's basically a clunky piece of shite)

Dell are doing this deal for £378.00;
(I've added Flamingo Pink as an option, as I know the target market here...)

What is it used for?

Pretty much... Other than

Pretty much...

Other than that the normal (email, porn, dicking about on the internet, IM, porn, non-3D gaming, possibly some admin/personal work, for which I can arrage a copy of Office, porn).

Is battery life important?

Is battery life important?

To a certain extent...I'd

To a certain extent...I'd probably go for the 6-cell battery over the 4-cell one, but I think the 9-cell one will weight too much.

2+ hours would be acceptable...At the moment the battery on the current one doesn't charge unless you hold it just right, so anything would be an improvement.

As your not looking for

As your not looking for anything out of the ordinary Dell are normally reasonably priced and well built.

The one I had was good. Gid did have problems with one of his but I think support did keep sorting it out.

Didn't Gid also say he had

Didn't Gid also say he had dropped it a lot?

Cheers...I shall confirm it with her, and probably get it ordered...

I bought mine as a business

I bought mine as a business machine so far its had:

2 New Hard Disks.
1 New Screen.
1 New Mainboard.

I think I still have the same case, processor and RAM. When I got mine the upgrade to the 3 year warranty was supper cheap. Yes they have Indian call centers, but there not bad at sending a chap to fix it once they've worked out what needs replacing.

It does get rather hot so much so that I had a burn mark on my leg that was through jeans.

So basically if you want your Dell laptop to last more then a year buy the extended warranty.

If you see a deal on another machine phone Dell often they'll match there own deals.

I should add each time I had a problem and tech support have diagnosed it the chap to fix it was with me next day with the replacement part that for me is pretty good.

Did you not think to lift

Did you not think to lift the laptop from your leg before it started sizzling?

Leg didn't sizzle it just

Leg didn't sizzle it just got a weird marking on it for a bit, its all cleared up now.
