Going to start doing concept images tonight

I'm having trouble finding

I'm having trouble finding images I like. I have this mental concept where the steam part is jury-rigged on, so you have a normal ship, and the steam part is overtly in the rear of the device (pipes, big funnels etc).

I'll keep looking...

I like the ideas of the jury

I like the ideas of the jury riggedness. I think I can do that. I was also thinking of having the helm on a gantry on top of the boiler.

It for steampunk, it could

It for steampunk, it could be real world images of things people have made in that vein. I am thinking wood, leather, brass, etc.

Should the ships have sails?

I was also thinking that the ship should have two speeds, going faster if someone is stoking a boiler with coal.

Ships should definitely have

Ships should definitely have sails.

Within the design concept I put up ships speeds were covered. Sail would be faster than steam, and there was the concept of "hot spots" to allow players to improve default performance (blantantly stolen from Air Buccaneers)

super, ignore this post,

Am thinking this makes the good basis for a small one/two man boat, almost no protection from incoming fire but looks light and nimble, I imagine it working on water with a waterwheel driven design:

Brilliant find. Love it. I have seen video of this nutter somewhere. I think a one-person design is the way to go. :)

Apparently the description

Apparently the description of riding it is fast in a straight line but turning is entirely based on leaning. I was thinking this might make it a good two man vehicle, with a gunner who has to negotiate not only the sway caused by waves but also any tilt from turning.

I'd say I can get sketching but I have no idea how to translate 2d pics to 3d...

Will be picking up UT3 tonight btw.

Also some very nice

Also

mythbusters had a american civil war steam powered machinegun on a recent episode. It used centripetal force to sling projectiles. Maybe we should copy the original design. http://mythbusters-wiki.discovery.com/page/Episode+93:+Confe...

Cool drawing. I like the backpack, it's almost like a steam version of a Ghostbusters proton pack. :)
