The Burghfield SnowCam

Fingers crossed some muppet tries to drive out of here. those who had my running commentary of the muppet trying to park his car last night can clearly see the offending vehicle in the middle of the image, cunning parked in the road, at a good angle to stop anyone trying to get by.

We are predicted another 6 inches of snow throughout the day today, and it's coming down as I type...

Had to take it down as I had

Had to take it down as I had approximately 64,000 hits on the site yesterday, which put me about 6 gig over my bandwidth limit. That'll teach me to put a link on Twitter!

I now have the images being taken every 10 minutes, and currently storing them locally...it's running on the laptop, so it can be left running indefinitely...should get a good defrost sequence. If I can find a free hosting option that allows FTP upload I'll get it live again...

How much bandwidth are you

How much bandwidth are you using for it??

I went through about 9.5 gig

I think that should now work for everyone not on my home network now... it'w working through a web proxy.

Some weirdness with the laptop not being correctly registered on the router. Set up a static IP address, and generally hit a few things...

The refresh rate is much lower now, and snow panic is a bit less than Wednesday...

Cheers for checking the links. Quite chuffed that I now have a server in the house :-)

Pete, are you time lapsing these, some of them are great!

Yep...all the images are

Yep...all the images are saved to the log (roughly 300 a day). I'll need to try and work out some way of balancing the light (the webcam has issues with daylight, and over-exposes, so I have to swap it between settigns morning and evening).

I've done a test run, and it's looking OK, but the real piccies will come with the thaw, as the roads and houses re-appear...

There might be a photoshop

There might be a photoshop batch way of doing it (actually, I am pretty sure there is).
