LOL, it looks like I've updated the server to MC 1.1 entirely by accident. I've also updated dynmap and checked that WorldEdit etc are working OK. Oooops! Got lucky that time.
The technique which you managed by accident is basically create a new profile with the new version of minecraft and compatible bukkit if it exists as the running version set that as active and there you go
then go through all the whitelists config and misc file and update/copy them across. This part is the more tedious more error prone part
