This is not the job you're looking for

So, I applied for a job as a lead c# .net developer working on a modern technology stack. I was told that there was a legacy product but the aim of the job was to help sunset the old technology (that was being looked after by a bunch of contractors and off-shorers) by coding in the new. When I arrived, I was told that I would be leading the legacy product with a view to 'transitioning' technology into the new.

I've ended up leading a team of contractors and off-shorers to keep the legacy system alive. I'm waiting for a meeting where we'll be planning to (in the words of my boss) "keep the coma patient alive for as long as possible before turning off the life support machine".

So, I'll be the Doctor in charge of the coma patient, then?

It's not the CTO that has decided this. The husband-wife team/board have decided that they've spent far too much on the legacy to simply chuck it. Parallels with Microsoft's Vista could not be more appropriate.

To make my life more of a misery, the contractors around me (a mix of web dev and DBA) are being let go to be replaced by more off-shorers. The team in the UK will consist of me and two others. Most of my time will then become managing fucking off-shorers. All not all bad coders, they're communication skills are poor and they're driven by a different set of factors than UK contractors. They want to please by being quick to market, regardless of the cost.

So, I'm throwing myself at the job market again. I'm not going to use the job boards by uploading my CV. Even if I write in big fucking letters across the top what and where I want to work, I'll still get pushy wankers trying to get me to do a junior Dev job for half the money in Windsor, which IS NOT 5 miles from the centre of Reading - no matter how you fold the fucking map.

This time I'm going to go back the recruitment consultants who have sent me jobs I quite liked the look of in the past. I'm on 2 weeks notice now for the next 2 months, which means I can fuck off really quickly.

What a pain.

Cheers mate, it's quite on the hoof. The job hasn't actually been advertised yet.

Interview went well - not sure if they liked me. I did ask the MD if he was going to sell up and leave when bored.

Hmm... not good. Hope the search goes well mate :)

Thanks Byrn! I think I have a second interview coming up at the place I was at before. I get to look at some tech, so we'll see where they are in that POV.

Sat through another 'waffly' action meeting at work today. By the end of it I felt that the CTO wants a plan on how to get out of the shit but has no idea how to make one.

Make sure you find a good one this time.
