Back to the DMV

I spent another morning waiting in line. When going over my temporary license I noticed it had a restriction on it for corrective lenses, since I don’t wear glasses I suspected this would cause me grief since legally I the couldn’t drive on it without my non existent glasses.

So I got went to the DMV early hoping to get in before it was crazy. I got there at 8am as it opened the car park was full and the queue was round the building. Once I had found a place to park I joined the “no appointments” queue and waited.

In typical american style a gentleman in the queue engaged me about the message emblazoned on my t shirt which I think was from New Zealand. I got the front of that queue and got my meat counter style number and settled in to wait.

This time I had come prepared I had my nook and some good books to read. The DMV is crawling with people a lot of kids applying for their license who brought their whole families with them and then a block of other people there are places to sit but they have only those tiny plastic chairs no normal sized human can sit in. About an hour and a half later I was called and wandered over to the window. I told the lady my problem she examined my papers and said “Oh yet it’s a typo” and had it fixed in all of five seconds. It seemed to me that there has to be a better way of doing this than making me waste my time in queues for things like quick corrections surely that could be handled over the phone or electronically.

It also proved that making an appointment doesn’t save time just short cuts part of the first queue.

Anyway I now have a correct temporary license so I can move to the next step the driving test. All I need for that is a car with number plates back and front, mine currently doesn’t have any plates being new fingers crossed those show up in time for the driving test.

In other news went to see the sorcerers apprentice which was a silly special effects heavy action film. Quite fun but nothing ground breaking. The new Christopher Nolan film Inception is out which looks really interesting so I might try and see that this week.

Also managed to get in a session of Left 4 Dead 2 with friends from the UK seemed to work pretty well and I had a great time, hopefully we’ll do such things again some time. Scheduling things like that is tricky but worth it for some multi player laughs.

Great to have you onboard with the Zombie thrashing. I think it might be easier to schedule if we make it sort of semi-regular. So glad you're 8 hours behind rather than forward as getting us together during the day is nigh-on impossible.

Next time most people will have headsets too - which would be nice.

I think we worked out my problem...voice was enabled in the chat and in-game...once I'd turned off the in-game stuff I was apparently almost legible...

...I'm still getting a new headset though...

Excellent. You can't go far wrong with Razer gear either.

Given the time difference I'm pretty much limited to weekends as it's basically lunch time my time for evenings your time but that's workable.
